Every quote we hand you is made of the same parts. The proportions shift depending on whether we're replacing a system or repairing one, but the categories don't change — and neither does the way we calculate them.

What comfort upgrades cost
These are the add-ons we install alongside repairs and replacements. Several come bundled into our higher system packages; here's what each one is worth on its own.

Repairs we handle, and what usually causes them
Most no-cool and no-heat calls in this area come down to one of the following. Knowing which is which won't fix your system, but it will tell you whether you're looking at an afternoon or a much bigger conversation. If you need one of these handled now, start with AC repair or furnace repair.

Cooling Season
Single Run Capacitor
$175 – $295The most common summer failure. Cheap part, quick fix, and the reason a system hums but won't start.
Dual Run Capacitor
$198 – $400Same idea, serving both the compressor and the fan motor.
Contactor Replacement
$153 – $417The switch that tells the outdoor unit to run. Pits and burns over time, especially on units near the water.
Condenser Fan Motor
$410 – $980When the outdoor fan stops, the system overheats and shuts down on high pressure.
Condenser Fan Blade
$150 – $300Cracks and imbalance cause vibration that will take the motor with it if left alone.
Compressor Replacement
$2,500 – $5,300The big one. On systems past twelve years this is usually the moment to price a replacement alongside it.
Hard Start Kit
$245 – $425Gives an aging compressor the extra push it needs to start under load.
TXV Replacement
$900 – $1,600The metering valve. When it fails, the system either starves or floods and cooling suffers either way.
Nitrogen / Electronic Leak Search
$225 – $450Finding a refrigerant leak properly rather than topping it off and hoping.
Pull & Clean Evaporator Coil
$650 – $1,200A blocked indoor coil kills airflow and freezes the system solid.
Chemical Coil Cleaning
$218 – $422Outdoor coils here collect pollen, grass, and salt air. A dirty coil raises your bill every month it stays dirty.
Heating Season
Hot Surface Ignitor
$150 – $500Brittle with age. A furnace that clicks and does nothing on the first cold night is often this.
Flame Sensor
$150 – $400Carbon buildup makes the furnace light, run briefly, then shut down. Repeats until cleaned or replaced.
Inducer Draft Motor
$550 – $950Clears combustion gases before ignition. No inducer, no heat — by design, for safety.
Pressure Switch
$195 – $375Confirms the inducer is doing its job. Often fails because of a blocked hose or flue, not the switch itself.
Furnace Control Board
$550 – $1,600The brain. Surges and moisture are the usual culprits, which is why we push surge protection.
Limit Switch / Rollout Switch
$150 – $400Safety devices. If one trips repeatedly, something else is wrong and needs finding.
Heating Element / Heat Strip
$250 – $600lectric backup heat. Common on heat pump systems throughout this area.
Heat Sequencer
$150 – $350Staggers heat strips so they don't all draw at once and overload the circuit.
Defrost Control Board
$300 – $700Heat pump specific. A failed board means an outdoor coil iced over on a damp forty-degree morning.

Blower Motor — ECM
$950 – $1,800Variable-speed motor found in newer and higher-efficiency systems.
Blower Motor — PSC
$700 – $1,100The older single-speed style still in plenty of homes around here.
Blower Wheel
$250 – $550Caked with dust it moves less air, and unbalanced it shakes itself apart.
Media Filter Replacement
$85 – $145The larger cabinet filters, not the one-inch throwaways.
Thermostat
$450 – $750Replacement or upgrade, including smart thermostats that qualify for a utility rebate.
Transformer
$185 – $325Powers the low-voltage controls. When it goes, the whole system looks dead.
Disconnect Box Replacement
$250 – $475The outdoor safety switch. Weather and corrosion get to these, particularly near the bay.
Primary Drain Line Clearing
$165 – $285Our most common August call. A clogged line backs up and shuts the system off — or worse, finds your ceiling.
Safety Float Switch
$199 – $550The device that shuts things down before water damage happens. Every system should have one.
Duct Work Repair
$250 – $550Sealing, resizing, and repairing runs through crawlspaces and attics where most of the loss happens.

What Drives HVAC Prices in Southern Maryland Specifically
National price guides are written for a country that mostly doesn't look like this one. We work across five counties — Calvert, Anne Arundel, Prince George's, Charles, and St. Mary's — and a few things about this stretch of Maryland move the number in ways a generic article won't tell you.
Salt air and the water
Condensers along the bay and the rivers corrode faster than the same unit sitting inland. Chesapeake Beach, North Beach, Solomons, Deale, Shady Side, Galesville, Mayo — coils, contactors, and disconnect boxes all take it. That shortens equipment life and makes coil cleaning and protective coatings a better investment here than in most markets.
Humidity That Doesn't Quit
Summers here are genuinely humid, and humidity is what makes 82 degrees feel unbearable. That's why an oversized system is a real problem rather than a theoretical one — it cools fast, shuts off early, and never runs long enough to pull moisture out. It's also why drain lines clog and float switches earn their keep.
Housing Stock That Varies Enormously
Our service area runs from Bowie and Crofton subdivisions to century-old farmhouses in Aquasco and waterfront cottages in Broomes Island. A lot of these homes have ductwork in vented crawlspaces or unconditioned attics, additions tied into the original trunk decades later, and electrical panels that predate the equipment they're feeding. None of that shows up in a phone quote. All of it shows up in the labor line.
Propane and Oil
Plenty of homes in Charles, St. Mary's, and rural Calvert still heat with propane or oil. Repairs on those systems draw from a different parts pool, and converting to a heat pump changes the scope of a job well beyond swapping a box. It's also where the largest utility rebates tend to be.
Power Quality and Storms
Rural circuits and summer thunderstorms are hard on control boards. We push surge protection more than a contractor in a dense suburb would, and it's not an upsell — it's the failure we see repeatedly.
Access and Timing
A unit in a tight attic on a Saturday in July costs more to service than the same unit in a garage on a Tuesday morning. We'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.

We pull every permit a job requires, in whichever jurisdiction you're in. It's part of the price, not a surprise added afterward.
